DerryGAA weekly round-up: 06/09/10
Congratulations to our county’s Under 16 and Under 14 Hurling Development squads who were in action last weekend at the National blitzes held in Leinster. The under 16 squad were in Mullingar where they progressed to the ‘shield’ semi-final falling short by just three points to Roscommon.  The under 14 squad were in Portlaoise where they emerged Shield winners thanks to an injury time winning goal in the final against Wicklow.

The players thoroughly enjoyed their day’s hurling and all the lads deserve a lot of praise for the way they preformed on the day.  Coaching Development managers Chris Collins and Kevin Hinphey wish to express their thanks to the parents who travelled the long distance to give their support, and to all the coaches for their continuous energy and commitment, the evidence of which maintains to bear fruit.

On Saturday past 44 teams, comprising in the region of 400 players, took part in the final Lynco Under 12 Go Games football blitz of the year at Derry’s Centre of Excellence, Owenbeg.  The showers didn’t dampen the enjoyment amongst the participants, who demonstrated evidence of the skills and basics being coached successfully back at their own clubs.  Many of these lads will now be gearing up for the Barrett Electrical Under 13 football competition which is run over the month of September.  35 teams have entered this competition and Chris Collins has issued a set of fixtures and rules to all participating clubs.

Then on Sunday 61 teams took part in the final Lynco Under 8 Go Games football blitz of the year at Owenbeg.  Again well done to everyone who took part, and Chris echoes a word of thanks to all the Under 8 coaches who have done a great job with the young players in the county this year.  Along with Coiste Chontae Dhoire, he would also like to thank sponsors Lynco for their continued support of this year’s Go Games programme.

Ahead of an Under 17 Football Development Squad Blitz on Saturday 11th September @ Ogra Colmcille, Chris Collins has issued on the website a list of players he requests attend Drumsurn on Wednesday 8th September at 6.30pm sharp, to play in a challenge game.  He reminds these panellists that next year’s minor management will be using Wednesday and Saturday as an opportunity to look at players for next year’s minor squad.

This incoming weekend will be another big weekend of club championship action, CCC have released the following times and venues.  Saturday 11th September at Fr McNally Park Banagher, GBS Scaffolding IFC Semi-final @ 4:15 Castledawson v Craigbane, and that is followed by M & L Contracts SFC Semi- Final @ 5.45, Ballinascreen v Coleraine.

Finally, congratulations to Watty Grahams Glen who successfully defended their Ulster Óg Sport u15 football title at the provincial finals held at Watty Graham Park on Saturday.  Eight of the nine Ulster counties were represented in this annual event organized by Comhairle Uladh, and well run by our own Tony Scullion and Naul McCole (Dún Na nGall).
